Figurative Language — Grade 5 ELA 練習ワークシート
Figurative language uses words in non-literal ways to create vivid images and deeper meaning. It helps writers express ideas more powerfully than plain statements.
A simile compares two things using like or as ("brave as a lion"). A metaphor compares directly without like/as ("time is money"). Personification gives human traits to non-human things.
Hyperbole is extreme exaggeration for effect ("I've told you a million times"). Idioms are phrases whose meaning isn't literal ("it's raining cats and dogs").
